ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY ROTTERDAM …
The Islamic University of Rotterdam, founded in 1997, is a Dutch university on Islamic basis. She wants to promote the studying of Islamic tradition in contemporary Dutch society. With this goal it provides targeted government-approved courses with a curriculum whose traditions, which in the Islamic world are crystallized, an important part. The IUR provides education in the bachelor-master structure in which students can enroll in two courses that are accredited by the NVAO: Bachelor & Master Islamic Theology Islamic Spiritual Care. The Bachelor education leads students into the world of Islamic intellectual tradition and gives it a place in the current social context, both nationally and internationally. This would contribute to the formation of a broadly educated intellectual Muslim under which a growing need, particularly in the training ofqualitativeimams. In the Master’s degree of IUR, there is the opportunity to delve into a specific part of the Islamic intellectual tradition, or acquire further skills as spiritual caregiver. Outside these faculties there are courses and workshops in the field of language and culture and art from the Islamic tradition. Examples include calligraphy, paper marbling (Ebru), Arabic language and music, including playing the reed flute.
