Code of Conduct with respect to international studentsThe Code is an initiative of academic institutions, independent education-related organizations and the Dutch government. The Dutch Code of Conduct for universities guarantees proper recruitment, selection and coaching of students from outside the European Union. The aim of the Code of Conduct is to promote Dutch higher education abroad, and to guarantee the quality of higher education for foreign students in the Netherlands. One of its main goals is to help students obtain the correct visas and residence permits efficiently. Code of Conduct ConditionsThe Code of Conduct came into being as the result of co-operation between various parties in higher education, as well as several ministries. The Dutch government acts on the understanding that educational institutions which sign, carry out, and adapt the Code of Conduct will act in a responsible manner as regards international students. Furthermore, signing the Code of Conduct is a condition for the granting of residence permits for study at the level of higher education. The institutions that have signed the code comply with certain conditions. These include providing clear and accessible information on the status of programme in terms of accreditation, the criteria that the quality of the education must comply with and the internal procedures which guarantee this quality, and providing a description of the study programme and its admission requirements. A national committee supervises adherence to the Code. On the 4th of December 2009, the Code of Conduct was revised. IUR and Code of Conduct ConditionsThe Islamic University of Rotterdam (IUR) has signed this code and offers a fast and easy procedure for international students applying for the Master Programme Islamic Spiritual Care at the Islamic University of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. If the IUR does not live up to these expectations, it will no longer be possible to sign an agreement with the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). The code is applicable for "International students": those who have foreign nationality, and who have received a Dutch residence permit on the understanding that they will follow a course of education at a Dutch educational institution.
