Islamic TheologyApplications for the admission are carefully evaluated by the admission commission of the programme. Admission ConditionsA student who wishes to start in the Islamic Theology programme
1) HAVO diploma or similar degreeTo be admitted to the programme, the student is in possession of one of the following diplomas or certificates:
Who is not in possession of one of the abovementioned diplomas or certificates, can access the Ba programme through an entrance exam. 2) Dutch language proficiency (NT2 level)Students should be able to read and understand books, lectures, to participate in lectures and seminars in Dutch at a level of at least NT-II. Therefore, in admission to a Dutch spoken programme on the basis of a foreign diploma, a so-called NT2-II-diploma is always an additional requirement for foreign students. At the moment of initial registration for a Ba programme, the proof of the Dutch language proficiency cannot be older than 24 months. Please refer to the Dutch language courses: Dutch language courses. 3) Arabic Language (preference)Given the nature of the Bachelor of Islamic sciences, the University offers a Ba programme in which the mastery of the Arabic language as a source language plays undeniable role. Preferably the students with sufficient Arabic language knowledge and mastery will be admitted to the programme. Students with an Arabic language deficiency will be admitted to the programme with the condition that they first finished the preparatory phase (intensive) Arabic language courses. These courses are provided by the Islam Institute (ISIN) of the University. The preparatory phase lasts up to two years. 4) Residence permitThe academic programmes of the IUR attract a lot of attention of the foreign students. To be admitted to the courses of the IUR, students must be in possession of a valid residence permit in the Netherlands or in one of the countries of the European Union (EU). A "residence permit" means a (permanent) residence permit on the basis of family reunion; a (permanent) residence permit on the basis of "recognized refugee"; a residence permit on the basis of "employment contract", which is valid at least for 6 months; a residence permit other than the above-mentioned statutes, that is valid at least for more than 1 year, but is suitable for to study in Netherlands. 5) Basic knowledge of Islam (preference)For admission to the Bachelor of Islamic sciences, a basic knowledge of Islam is desirable. Preferably students with basic knowledge of Islam will be admitted to the programme. Students, who miss this basic knowledge, follow the missing courses in the preparatory phase. These courses are provided by ISIN. 6) Financial resourcesDue to the fact that the some programmes of the IUR are still not accredited by the NVAO, the students of these programmes do not make use of the student financial aid from the Government. The students of these programmes should regulate their financial resources provisionally themselves. The University is not liable for the financial means for its students. That is why the IUR asks the availability of financial resources as an additional requirement to the admission. The University can intercede for finding a scholarship or a small job.
